Can You Help?
Winthrop Gardens is run by an amazing team of volunteers – and there are always opportunities for new volunteers
Gardening Volunteering Opportunities
Our team of volunteer gardeners work under the leadership of Head Volunteer Gardener – Martin Ford.
They undertake a range of gardening tasks including: weeding, pruning, grass cutting, propagating plants, nurturing seeds and seedlings, watering, helping with plants sales etc
The main volunteering days in the Gardens are Mondays and Tuesdays although there are regular tasks like watering on other days.
Tearoom Volunteering Opportunities
We are always looking for volunteers to give us extra help in our busy Tea Room.
We offer hot and cold drinks, scones, cakes and snacks like sandwiches, paninis and ‘home made’ soups.
The Tea Rooms are open on two days a week in the winter (Tuesdays and Thursdays) and three days a week in the summer, (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 2019) and the opening hours are 10.30am - 4pm, in the summer and 11am – 3pm in the winter. We generally work with two shifts for Café Volunteers: 10am - 1.30pm and 1.30pm - 4.30pm (summer) and shorter shifts during the winter.
Our current volunteers help us when they are able and to fit around other commitments - some come every week, others once a month, and every hour given is really appreciated. We have a 4 week repeating rota and endeavour to match volunteers with shifts and roles to suit their skills and preferences.
