Lovely to meet Christine Firth and her daughter yesterday. Christine has known Winthrop from the very early days, she remembers being at the official opening on 29/07/2005 when John Healey MP did the honours and was given a bunch of rhubarb rather than flowers!!
Christine was also able to tell me a little more about the metal sculpture behind her! It was designed by her daughter, Rachel, and made by her husband Peter. While it was never intended to be a cross, that was just how it developed and apparently at the right time of the morning the sun will shine through the diamond in the middle!
Lovely story and great to discover another piece of Winthrop history.
Hope to see you again soon Christine!
